We re-home pure bred Labradors and, whilst we are not associated with any other Labrador rescue organisations or breed associations, we are completely independent of any other body and we assist any which may contact us for help.

Labradors come into our care for assessment before re-homing and we have a team of experienced helpers at hand to help and advise at any time.
If any of the Labradors have medical problems, these are attended to by our Veterinary Surgeon.

Many of our dogs come into the Rescue as a result of changed circumstances i.e financial, divorce, eviction, hard times and problem dogs, etc. Most have been well looked after and are in good health but some do need training and TLC - but with the right home any problems can be overcome. After a dog is re-homed, we offer a complete back-up and advisory service and maintain an interest in the dog for the remainder of its life

There is no “Perfect” rescue dog and we do not supply dogs for working and breeding purposes; they are meant as purely family pets.

Labrador Rescue East Midlands
 founded  January 1981

by
Mr Harry Cook MBE

Since that time approximately 5000 Labradors have been placed into suitable homes, that is homes where love and companionship, food and exercise are the prime factors

An unexercised and bored Labrador can become most destructive, and therefore a young dog is never knowingly placed into a home where it is likely to be shut up for any length of time.

Homes are vetted before and after placing when possible, but as the rescue covers the Country it is obvious that this cannot always be done, nevertheless there are always means of being sure that the home is suitable. A certificate of adoption has to be signed by the new owner promising to return the dog to Labrador Rescue should it ever become necessary

Funding

Funds are, of cause, the biggest problem, as the Rescue depends entirely upon donations. It is not the everyday running of things that drain the ever slender resources, but the Genuine appeals for help - such as an elderly couple in danger of losing their dog because they have not the £70.00 for a much needed operation, or a Labrador in Police kennels due to be destroyed, because having reached the end of its official stay, there is no one to pay or care what happens to him.

The stories are endless , but alas not the funds, so Labrador rescue East Midlands is most grateful to members of the public who can organise a coffee morning, jumble sale, ploughman’s lunches etc on their behalf.

We hold an Annual dog walk in April (Please see below for details) where all rescued Labradors are asked to bring their owners.

Anyone needing help with a Labrador, or wishing to give a good home to one should contact.
